B-MEG looks to force a deciding Game Seven while Rain or Shine tries to close out the series when the Llamados and Elasto Painters clash in a crucial Game Six matchup in the PBA Governors’ Cup finals Friday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
Riding high on a big 91-81 win in the previous game, B-MEG will be gunning for back-to-back victories when they face Rain or Shine in their 6:45 p.m. encounter.
Making up for the absence of hurting forward Marc Pingris, several Llamados stepped up in a big way in Game Five including James Yap, who scored 30 points, import Marqus Blakely, who had 24 points and 13 rebounds, and big man Yancy De Ocampo, who finished with 14 and 14.
Pingris is expected back on Friday, although he will likely not be at 100 percent.
The last game was another highly-physical encounter, with Yap, Jireh Ibanes and Beau Belga all being called for technical or flagrant fouls.
“Ok lang naman sana kung pisikal lang, pero kung medyo sinasadya na, hindi na maganda yun,” said Yap, who threw a punch at Ibanes in retaliation for an elbow he received on the other end.
The Elasto Painters, meanwhile, will be hoping to avoid a Game Seven in which momentum will be squarely on the side of the Llamados.
To do that, they’ll need their locals to provide more support to import Jamelle Cornley, especially Gabe Norwood, who scored 18 points in their Game Four win but was held scoreless on 0-for-4 shooting in the last game.
Rain or Shine, though, isn’t lacking in confidence that they can clinch their first title in franchise history.
“Na-delay lang kami, pero amin pa rin ito,” said Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao.
