Jorge Arce of Mexico said on Wednesday that what happened over the weekend in Las Vegas, is bound to happen again.
Arce was referring to the stunning upset scored by Juan Manuel Marquez over Manny Pacquiao and this Saturday at the Toyota Center, Mexico is going to strike anew.
“I will give you a new surprise,” declared Arce during a press conference held at the Toyota Center for his fight against Nonito Donaire.
Donaire is staking not only his World Boxing Organization super-bantamweight title but his lofty status as a pound-for-pound entrant in this faceoff with the rugged Arce.
“It’ll be incredible this Saturday,” said Donaire, who charmed the crowd when he said that he never thought that it could really get very cold in this city that is home to the NBA’s Rockets.
“It’s cold here but I promise you that it’ll be hot in the ring on Saturday,” said Donaire, who is being regarded as the successor to Pacquiao.
Promoter Bob Arum said the Donaire-Arce encounter is a continuation of the brewing rivalry between the Philippines and Mexico.
Donaire has been pretty busy this year, having already fought three times.
